Jehovah Nissi - our God, our protector
On the 8th April, 2012, Easter Sunday, the lives of four people were changed forever.
My pastor, his wife, a sister from church and myself were happily singing songs of worship to the Lord after a beautiful morning service as we drove from our old church in Melton to Caroline Springs. The drive was smooth and hassle free. There were no other vehicles in sight aside from our car and our visiting minister and his wife driving behind us in their car.
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."
As we drove onto the Melton highway, we passed through a dip. All of a sudden, the pastor's wife lost control of the car. Our car started to swerve from side to side violently. Pastor told her to step on the brakes, but she couldn't, due to being in a panic. As the car went from side to side, we started to scream, "Jesus". The car hit a rock and started to roll. One... Two... Three... times. It was so surreal, like you see in the movies. My life suddenly flashed before my eyes and the faces of the people I love.
What seemed like an eternity of rolling, we finally come to a sudden stop. The car was upside down. I felt so scared as dead silence took over. I was hanging upside down in my seatbelt. I had no feeling from my head to my toes. My body was in total shock. My Pastor began to call out our names one by one. Praise God! We're alive!
We hurriedly scrambled to our feet and got out of the car. From a very ghostly road before the accident, it was now filled with people. I remembered there were two nurses, a police officer on her way to work, paramedics, and a fire truck came soon after. The most qualified people to verify a miracle, were all there!
The car had landed 10 metres away from the main road into a roadside dip. The people looked on in horror at the totalled car and at the same time watched in awe as the four of us come out alive one after the other with no broken bones! Whatever scratches and bruises we had, were from when we crawled out onto the dry grass. What could have been a disaster became a testament to all of us at the scene of how great our Lord Jesus is!
I am overcome with the greatness of our God. I praise Him and I love Him. There is no other god like Him. He saved us from sure death. I am forever grateful. I hold on to all the promises in the Bible, for God has proven Himself time and time again, that He keeps His word.
Psalms 46:1, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."
Psalms 62:2, "He is my only rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved."
Psalms 62:8, "Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us."
